Citrix ICA Client: Launching Applications from Website Does Not Work

More Information

After installing the Citrix ICA Client, your web browser should automatically hand off a certain type of file (extension .ICA) to the ICA Client to be processed. The ICA Client reads this type of file, and uses the information inside to connect to HAI's Citrix servers. This process is the underlying mechanism that makes the launch page work. When functioning as designed, clicking on a launch link should result in a prompt that looks like this:

If instead of opening the ICA file, your browser asks you what to do with this file, you can try the following :

  1. When prompted to Open or Save the file, select "Open".
  2. If the message illustrated above does not appear, you may be asked to select the program that handles ICA files. By default on a Windows PC, this program should be in the following path :

    C:\Program Files\Citrix\icaweb32\wfica32.exe

Select this path from the dialog box to set up the program/file association. The file should now be opened by the ICA Client, and the connection should begin.

If this program/path does not exist, you most likely do not have the ICA Client installed on your computer. See the installation documentation for information on how to install the client on your computer, or contact your IT department and/or HAI for assistance.
